or email away.
Offshore
Chandlery Service Overview
The Offshore Chandlery Service has been uniquely designed to accommodate
first time boaters, seasoned sailors, and charter boat captains
who have found themselves in that precarious and possibly dangerous
position of having that important part fail while away from home
port or a place of re-supply. This service provides a safety net:
one email or phone call will get those needed parts on
the way to you! Read on to learn how this unique (and FREE)
service can bring that needed repair to you without
incurring unnecessary delays and expenses.
So...
How does it work?
After creating a User
Id and password you will need to define a brief profile for your
boat(s) on the My Boats page. There is no limit to
the number of boats a user may define. We recommend creating a second
profile for tenders if the vessel has more than one or a large tender.
Once a boat has been defined, the information can be entered in
any order. The Offshore Chandlery Service does not require information
on any particular component. However, there are some required fields
if the user chooses to enter a component. Each component is saved
as it is entered. It is not necessary to save when logging off or
worry about losing information if the connection is lost. For protection,
the system will automatically log off a user after 15 minutes of
inactivity. Switch between vessels by using the drop down box at
the top of each page.
- New Boats or First
Time Boaters: Completing most of the applicable information,
a section at a time, will better acquaint you with your vessel.
Once completed, you will have a detailed inventory of your vessel's
equipment. In addition, the Offshore Chandlery Service will be
more informed of the vessel to assist with provisioning and troubleshooting
before you leave port. In the event of breakdown, the Offshore
Chandlery Service will have detailed information on your vessel
to help you make the necessary repairs. Don't let the number of
areas intimidate you. Start with the basics, like the engine,
electrical and plumbing.
- Seasoned Sailors:
Since you know your boat, the age of the equipment and the various
problems that tend to arise while cruising, pick the areas most
applicable for your situation. The My Spares page
allows you to quickly enter items that need replacing on a regular
basis: filters, gaskets, fuses, impellers, etc. We also suggest
completing the information on the major components, like the engine,
watermaker, generator, heads, plumbing, refrigeration and pumps.
- Charter Boat Captains:
The Offshore Chandlery Service allows as many boats as you like
under one login. Allowing you to manage an entire fleet, if necessary.
The My Spares page allows you to quickly enter items
that need replacing on a regular basis: filters, gaskets, fuses,
impellers, etc. We also suggest completing the information on
the major components, like the engine, watermaker, generator,
heads, plumbing, refrigeration and pumps. In addition, at the
Personnel page the user can authorize others to order.
My
Spares:
The My Spares page is a unique tool allowing a user
quick reference to maintenance and replacement parts. From the My
Spares page a user can add new parts, edit or delete existing
parts, request a quote or order parts. While in the My Spares page,
the user can switch from boat to boat, adding items to the cart.
The cart will retain all items - even between sessions - until a
quote is requested, an order is placed, or the user removes the
items. Choose View Cart from the navigation on the
left side of the screen to access the cart. From the cart, the Edit
Items option allows the user to change quantities, delete items,
request a quote, place an order or empty the entire cart. Keep in
mind, when placing an order, credit card information must also be
submitted through the User Information page (if not
already on file).
Areas covered include:
- Engine Room
- Batteries and Charging
Equipment
- Electronics
- Tender and Liferaft
- Plumbing Systems
- Appliances, Cabin
Equipment & Lighting
- Rigging and Exterior
Equipment
The flexible system then
allows you to access, change or add information as needed. The Offshore
Chandlery includes features to add authorized purchasers and emergency
contacts. Sensitive material, such as billing information, is transmitted
via our secure server and stored off-line.
Credit
Card Information: The Offshore Chandlery Service highly
recommends submitting a credit card through our secure server to
be kept on file on our off-line server. This can be done on the
User Information page. The Offshore Chandlery Service
will validate the card (confirm card number, expiration date and
cardholder information) in advance, allowing a timely shipment upon
ordering. This is especially important if you are using a foreign
credit card or plan to receive shipments abroad, as the validation
process can take up to 2 business days for foreign banks and addresses.
In some cases, depending on the country, additional information
from the cardholder may be required for this process.
